I can battle with the best of them. - Nov 24

So this last week has been crazy because starting Monday I started
having random times where I was dead tired (to the point I actually
fell asleep in a lesson) and then would get these random bursts of
energy. So this last week we have been taking things slow so that I
don't hurt myself or fall asleep in a lesson. It has been a battle,
but I am known to battle with the best of them, I have been doing it
all my life. I have been eating right and getting enough sleep. Sister
Plumb thinks that I am getting sick and I think that it's the last 16
months of work catching up with me.

Oh an interesting thing happened yesterday. We went to try a media
referral that we received. Well we stop by to give her the Bible that
she requested and get to know her. Well we get there and we giver her
a Book of Mormon and tell her about what it's about and then we give
her the Bible. She then starts to tell us about her life story. The
odd part of it all is she told us that she doesn't trust yet she had
got to the point were she needed to tell us everything.

Well y'all have and awesome week and a wonderful Thanksgiving, eat
plenty of our family's potato salad and eggnog pie for me.

Love y'all,
Sister Brady

Camped out in the bathroom - Nov 17

This last week has been freezing. To the point that I have bought
leggings so that my legs stay warm (tights just aren't cutting it). I
have been doing all I can to keep warm and to make sure Sister Plumb
stays warm (she's from Arizona so I have to make sure she really
doesn't freeze.)

Well we had an interesting experience yesterday. After church the
elders came to our house so we could warm up some of the food that
members had given us for lunch. When they were getting ready to go
they were debating as to if they would go out to the area that they
usually go to on Sunday's to give a sister the sacrament. Because a
member had warned us that there was a storm coming in. So we did our
studies...and we accidently fell asleep which had turned out to be a
blessing because not long after we woke up the elders texted us and
told us to stay in because the storm was close. Well four hours later
the sister training leaders text us and tell us to stay in because we
are on a tornado warning, because it was going straight to Amite. So
we stayed in even longer. But we decided we were going to watch the
thunder and lightening from our screen door. Well it started getting
louder so we decided to camp out in the bathroom (the safest place in
a tornado). It was crazy because when we were in there the office
email texted the entire mission and told us that the entire mission is
on red alert lockdown. Ya, we were freaking out and all that jazz. I
have never feared for my life like that before. Everything is alright
now, no harm done.

Well love y'all and hope that you have an awesome week.
Love,
Sister Brady

Second to last transfer - Nov 10

So my time in the field is closing in and I can definitely feel it.
Things this last week have been crazy. We had exchanges right of the
back again, which I am not a huge fan of but I'm not the Sister
Training Leader so I don't make that call anymore. It seems like
everything was falling through that day. We did find out that one of
the part member families in our branch is going through a lot more
then we thought. It was so sad to see the wife who is the member
sitting in front of her front door looking lost and confused.

Oh and a weird/funny story to tell you. Last night we went over to see
a less active sister that calls us almost every morning at 6am to find
out when we are coming over next (unfortunately we can't answer that
early) and she was showing us the pamphlets she has from us. She
points out the word of wisdom and tells us that she loves the word of
wisdom and that she doesn't drink.  Well later in the conversation she
tells that WHEN she drinks she drinks no more then five beers or a
wine cooler.  We just sat there when she told us this wondering what
her definition of alcohol is because it isn't the same as what the
pamphlet says.

Anyways hope y'all have a good week.
Love y'all,

Sister Brady

Well I am staying in Amite. - Nov 4

So as you can tell I am staying in Amite, with Sister Plum for at
least six more weeks. This week has been crazy. Halloween we had to be
in by dark. I got a flu shot (the mission insurance covered it for a
few days.) and apparently the guy that was giving them to us had gone
to our church. He knew quite a bit it was really cool, unfortunately
we didn't have enough time to contact him, so we are sending the
elders to go and contact him when they go to get theirs. We have been
doing a lot lately to try increasing our teaching pool. Like we are
trying to meet a less active sister who has a sister who was
investigating the church but she sort of fell off of the face of the
planet. She has tried to make contact with her, and the one time that
she did she didn't ever call us back as to a time when we could meet
on the day that she said would work. But that is the mission life for
you. People disappear and reappear all the time and we don't have any
control over what happens. Like I found out that one of my
investigators in Houma disappeared off of the face of the planet.
We've been tearing it up this last week. We have been trying so hard
to stay busy. It has been hard though because there are so many people
we can see in certain areas and so much that we can do because the
cities here are so small, and we don't have many miles.
But things have been good. More and more people are showing up for
church each week...You would be surprised by how many visitors that we
get each week. The Amite Branch doesn't show up when you use the
church locator on lds.org.

Well y'all I love ya and hope that you have a good week.

I think I may be cursed.... (Oct 20)

So according to the other missionaries last transfer there was
usually about 40+ people at church, while I have been here there has
been no more then like 20. Things have been crazy we had district
meeting, Zone Conference, and a trip to Baton Rouge to have our car
inspected all in a three days. It was crazy and then pretty much every
one either cancelled on us or didn't want us to visit, so we weren't
able to see as many people as we would like.
Oh and guess what last Monday we got put on lockdown because a good
chunk of the state was on tornado watch. It was crazy though. So we
spent the night cleaning out what we called the closet of doom. It was
filled with clothes that sisters had been leaving behind for the past
year. But we spent lock down sorting through them and bagging them up
so that we could get rid of them. It took a good bit of time.
Lucky for us though a less active member named Tanya has been taking
care of us by providing meals. She's great. She reminds me a lot of
you dad....she got a kick out of some of the stories that I have told
about the way we do things back home.

Here are some pictures from this week.
Number one: Sis Plumb and the contents of the closet of doom.
Number two: a car that we saw in Independence...can you see the driver?
Number three: a wooden statue of Jesus that we found...he's darker
then most that I have seen.
Number four and five: so a cup fell off in our dishwasher and
melted...this is how we found it. We weren't sure how it happened
until we took it off.

Seeing what it is actually like - Oct 13

This week has been crazy. We have been working our tails off. Wetaught double what we did last week. The branch is really small. It is
to the point that I am in charge of pushing the buttons on the piano,
not playing but it has the hymns and primary songs on it. We also
teach the youth Sunday school when we have youth. We had one
investigator at church. Ya this defiantly is a small unit and probably
the smallest unit I will probably ever serve in.

Sister Plumb is cool. She's from Arizona. she is 19. I feel old. The
elders I serve around (Smiley and Hillam) are awesome. Smiley is from
Savannah, Georgia. Hillam is from Provo.
So here are some pictures from this week.

First week in Amite - Oct 6

So ya I am now in Amite, Louisiana. It is a small town that is mostly
black. It is nothing like my other areas. The elders here are really
cool. One is the most white black kid I know and the other is ADD and
has OCD (which brings a lot of life to this area) they are awesome
though.
My district here is really interesting. Three of us go home together
and  most of us have been out longer than a year. They're awesome
though.
It has been hard leaving Vidalia, especially because they made that
area an all elders area. Which will be really hard for the ward
because of how many single sisters there are in the ward and the lack
of priesthood available to do things with them.
Other than that things haven't been too hard. But conference was
great. My companion, SIs Plumb, and I got to watch priesthood session
at a members house because the elders happened to be there too.
Anyways hope y'all have a good week.

The first one is me and a less active family...the daughter and other
son weren't there.
The second is us and our investigator Patsy....she's a hoot.
The last is us with our LSU shirts (Sis Pearson's idea)

It's getting better - Sept 8

So this week was crazy. Friday we took a 150 mile drive to get to our
ZTM, and then this next week we get to make that drive again for
Specialized Training....we are going to die this month with miles.
This last week we did a lot. We met a lot of less active members and
got to talk to some of the members we weren't really close to. Oh and
we found an new investigator. It was awesome. We were going through
our areabook and looking at the Potential Investigator form. Well we
saw one that was close by to where we were. I was thinking that we
weren't going to be able to get in because it was a guy and Saturday
afternoon so no woman would be home. Well we get to the door and this
old lady sees us and we tell her that we are missionaries for our
church. Well she begins to tell us that some other ladies came by
earlier and left some stuff. We ask her what they left and so she
shows us the Watch Tower. We tell her that we belong to a different
church, and ask if we could tell her about it. She lets us in and we
begin to teach the Restoration. It was awesome because at one point
Sister Pearson asks her what it would mean to her if these things were
true. She looked at us and told us that it would mean a whole lot. We
then gave her a Book of Mormon and invited her to read from it and she
said that she would. We are planning on going back sometime later this
week. Gah we found someone in this area that pretty much everywhere
has been tracked and talked to. But we did it. The elders are even
excited about it.
But ya things are going good. It has been crazy though because we got
anti-ed, and it was in the most loving way. So to explain this we went
and tried a family that the previous sisters had been working with,
and we ask them what they were talking about last time. The husband
tells us what they talked about with the Plan of Salvation, and asks
us to answer any questions he has and we do. Apparently the other
sisters told him that him and his family basically won't be going to
heaven (well that is what he understood it as). He then pulls out
Galatians 1:6-10. Ya, once he shared that it was a slap in the face
and there was no getting the Spirit back, so now we have to figure out
how to teach the Plan of Salvation in a way that he will understand
because he did not understand it at all when the other sisters taught
it.
Oh and we got to teach the Sunbeams again yesterday, and we are in
charge of Sharing Time next week.....have I ever mentioned just how
much I love Primary and being in a ward that is so small that we are
the only ones that can teach Primary most Sundays? But ya now here is
a plethora of pictures that I have taken in the last two weeks.

Love y'all

Sister Brady

So two weeks ago we went to the Cemetery (because here they display
their crazies and it is actually kind of cool to see because it is so
old.) This one makes us laugh. It is in the Catholic section of the cemetery
and it says pray for us at the bottom.

So this is one of the weird graves. So this one is the daughter of a Plantation owner. Well when the daughter died the mom went crazy. She
would go in every night and read stories to her dead daughter. The
daughter when she was alive was afraid of thunder and so whenever
there was a thunderstorm the mom would go down in her daughters grave
and rock her dead daughter like she did when she was alive. And that
is Sister Pearson and Elder Taylor down in it,...I  refused to because
I would die going down the steps to get in because they were old and
steep and well we know just how well gravity and I get along in
situations like that.

So this is last weeks. We went to the Indian mounds. It was a lot of
fun. It is apparently where they made sacrifices and the mound that I
was standing on once upon a time had a temple on it. (any bets that it
was a Nephite temple?)

So I am in a totally new area and zone. I am in Vidalia, Louisiana.
For those of you that don't know where that is (I didn't know until we
got here) it is on the border of the Mississippi and Louisiana. Half
of the ward, actually about 80% if the ward lives in Natchez,
Mississippi and the other half lives in Vidalia. Pretty much everyone
that lives on our side of the river isn't active.  The adventure of
this all is that my companion and I were just brought into the area,
aka we white washed there area/doubled in. It has been crazy trying to
figure things out. Oh and guess what there is only us and a set of
elders. It is really pretty here though.  Oh and guess what my
companion and I somewhat know each other. We actually became friends
on facebook before the mission.

This ward is small...like about the size of jr primary small. I got to
sub in sunbeams yesterday and Sis Pearson and I were on cloud nine.
Primary is pretty much as big as Ashton and Avery's Sunday school
classes. Ya back to the ward size they only have two active deacons
and the elders are the ones that bless the sacrament. Ya I am
definitely not in New Orleans anymore. Anyways things have been  good,
we have been meeting more people and making more friends in this ward
that is the size of a branch.

Anyways y'all have fun and be good. Love y'all

One transfer companion - Aug 19

So ever since I left Covington I haven't had a companion for more then
a transfer. In other words I am getting transferred....sadly this one
is a much needed one. Not because of the area but because my companion
and I just couldn't figure out how to work together even though we are
so much a like. It has almost felt like we weren't suppose to be
companions. My dream right now is to open Thibodaux to sisters. This
ward is big enough that it needs two sets of sisters. We can barely
cover Houma and Cut Off, so anything north of Gray pretty much is
ignored by us. Which is sad because there are a lot of single sisters
that could use a visit, and unfortunately the elders can't do that.
Anyways this week has been a crazy one. Pretty much all the days are
blending together more so then normal.

Well sorry this one is going to be short I am trying to figure stuff
out for today and email at the same time.

When you are doing His work you are doing a great work - Aug 11

So this week wasn't like I would of hoped. It was hard, but missions
are hard. I think the biggest reason it was hard for me is because I
am still trying to remember that as a sister training leader the
sisters are my number one priority, no matter what if they call in the
middle of a lesson we need to take it. The only way that this work can
go forward is if all the missionaries doing it aren't weighed down by
other things. I love these sisters. We had three meetings this week
plus exchanges which took us out of our area for a couple days.
Exchanges were fun I got to go to Chalmette and work with a sister
that is in her first half training. She's from Smithfield, and so we
talked a lot about Cache Valley, because we all know that I just love
it up there.

We had an awesome miracle this week. Our investigators Nancy and Katy
are progressing. We watched Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration
with them. The entire time I was watching to see their reactions to
some of the things. At one point Katy asked us if that stuff really
did happen. We told her ya they did. They had so many questions after
words, which they asked us over dinner (they made us roast beef
po-boys, ohh they are so good.) One thing that really hit me was that
they cleaned up for us to be there. The table that normally is
overflowing with stuff was clean. The living room that usually has
stuff piled up on the floor was clear. It was amazing. All while we
were answering the questions they threw at us I noticed a change.
Nancy even asked us what time our church is and we told them that it
was from 10 to 1. They were really shocked but we explained that it
was broken up into three meetings and explained the importance of
each. It was really good because we really got to explain the
importance of the sacrament. Sis Allen explained it like dealing with
trash during the week; through out the week we pick up trash on our
house and throw it away (repenting daily) but then once a week we take
and put it on the street for it to be collected with everyone else's
trash (taking the Sacrament). It is really cool because you could
think of Christ as the garbage man. He comes and picks up our sins,
and God (our land lord) doesn't remember that we ever had that trash.
It was just so awesome it's hard to put it into words.
Well I hope that y'all have a good week
Love y'all
Sister Brady

So when we went to Baton Rouge this week we stopped at McDonalds on
our way home to get a smoothie to hold us over until dinner. Well we
were in the drive thru when we saw this duck randomly walking up to
the cars. Then we looked again and saw a whole bunch of Nutria the
R.O.U.S's Louisiana. (if you look at them carefully you can see were
they got the idea from.

So just to fill you in at first, our investigator who was suppose to
be baptized this weekend postponed her date. We don't know why or what
happened. It was hard because I didn't find out until after we had
done our exchanges with the Metairie Sisters.
Exchanges were fun I got to ride on my bike around Metairie for a
little over a day. I always like doing exchanges in Metairie...even
though at first the thought of going there made me anxious. It's a lot
better now because I love it there (there are actually sidewalks to
bike on here!)

Anyways so this week was an awesome week despite some of the
challenges that we had. We were able to actually go see our
investigators Nancy and Katy when they weren't drunk (apparently they
aren't drunk until after lunch). President and Sister Hansen came and
had interviews with the elders (we had our at the beginning of the
month after MLC) We had our ward coordination meeting and the
assistants and Sister Hansen sat in. After words the ward mission
leader and Sister Hansen went over what the needs for this area
missionary wise are, and we may be getting sisters in Thibodaux! This
is good because it means that Hermana Allen and I won't have to cover
the entire ward! We would cover down the bayou and Houma, while the
other sisters would cover everything North of Houma! It would be crazy
because then we would be the biggest district in the mission...we
actually would be big enough to have two districts.
So ya things are going a lot smoother now. It has been hard since
Sister Wheeler went home, but I am figuring out how this area works,
just like I had to do in Covington.

Well I love y'all and hope that you have a good week!
Love
Sister Brady

Picture 1 This is how I spent my year mark, Blue Bell icecream,
chocolate covered cinnamon bears, circus peanuts, a letter from dad,
studying Spanish, music, and the rest of the package that mom sent.
Picture 2....the blow up missionary version of a spreadsheet. So our
ward mission leader has us assigned to try certain people each week
and has it on a spread sheet. Well these are some of the people we are
assigned to see and so if we do see them they get a green yes, if we
try but no visit made we get a yellow tried, and if we don't we get a
red no. It's actually a really cool system.

It's the end of the month and I'm stressing - July 28

So this week has been all sorts of crazy. We went on exchanges with
the West Bank sisters. I was here in Houma for it, but during it our
investigator Cynthia had her baptismal interview. Well she came out
and said that she passed and that it was on. Well later that night the
district leader calls me and tells me that she needs to be interviewed
by President Hansen, but he won't be able to come down until next week
(so this week) when he comes to do interviews with the elders. Which
means we had to push back her baptism another week again. It was crazy
and I was a bit upset to the point that I just told the sister I was
with that we were going to stay in and I was going to do something
that would take my mind off of the news. After that things got pretty
rough because we are at the end of the month and low on miles. I would
bike but here there is no place to really bike except for in the
streets, which is dangerous and I'm not going to put my companion's or
my life at stake.
Anyways, other than that things have been pretty slow. We haven't had
as many lessons as we would like but I just have to remember that
right now my focus as a Sister Training Leader is not on helping the
people it is on helping the sisters be able to help the people. In
this case our ward has to suffer a bit through us not doing much
teaching because we aren't there most days. I just know that I am
helping the work move forward in a different way then a lot of
missionaries right now.

Well this is short but not much has happened that I can report
on...well besides I am able to understand a lot of the Spanish that I
read, I am now working on speaking. One of the elders here and an
elder in West Bank are more excited about me learning Spanish then I
am....but that is most likely because that will be one more sister who
could help with Spanish work.

Well y'all love ya and hope you each have a good week.
Sister Brady

July 21

So this week has been crazy. We had a meeting Wednesday in Baton
Rouge, Friday we went to West Bank for a meeting, and then we went to
the temple on Saturday with the ward.  Also we had to move our
investigators baptism back a week because she was sick and our
schedules were conflicting with being able to see her. So hopefully it
will happen this week.
Other than that things have been going pretty well. We have been super
busy and trying to balance all the assignments that we have been
given, the dinner appointments, and the sisters that we are over. But
that is the life of a sister training leader.
Oh we are also hoping that I can start learning Spanish soon so that I
can help with the Spanish work. My district leader really wants me to
so that way we can have all Spanish weekly call ins that I can
participate in. But for now I am learning by listening, which I have
come to find out has been helping a lot. For example as Sister Allen
prays or says something I try and translate/figure it out as much as I
can. It is a slow process but it is all that we can do for now.

Anyways I hope y'all have a good week.
Sister Brady

P.S. You should read Helaman 5, it shows just how powerful our names
our if we do something good with them.

Mission Dream Really Do Come True - July 14

So ya I am still a Sister Training Leader. My companion is awesome!
Her name is Hermana Allen...yep I am with a Spanish sister! It was my
dream to be put in a Salt & Pepper/Zebra companionship, so I was a
little upset when President Wall got rid of that. But hey mission
dreams really do come true. It has been really cool because the more
Spanish work that we have done the more that I understand and catch
onto....at this point I know how to start a prayer, which I had no
idea how to do that before.
Things have been crazy this week, because we have to finish teaching
one of our investigators the lessons and get her interviewed before
her baptism on Saturday...ya stressing a little on that. Plus we have
exchagnes and have to figure some stuff out.
We also got another set of elders put in the area, so it is going to
be crazy, but it will be good. The elders here are awesome and so is
the ward. It will be good.

Anyways here is a few pics for y'all
1. We helped the elders move from the Thibodaux elder's apartment to
the Spanish elder's apartment and this is what transporting the bed
looked like.
2.We may or may not have been dangerously close to the dash...I know
dad not safe, but I am blaming the elders for that.
3. This is just how close we were.
4.It rained on Friday and this was just how much it rained in front of
a member family's apartment. (we were there helping them back because
they are moving back to Brazil)
5.This is how high the water was on me. Yes I had to take my shoes off
just so that they wouldn't get soaked and my feet could be as dry as
possible for our next appointment.

Well love y'all and hope you have a good week
Love
Sister Brady

New companion and legs after an ant attack and rain.

New Transfer - July 8

So this week I started my 9th transfer.....which is crazy considering
sisters only have 13 transfers. Anyways this week has been crazy with
saying goodbye to people with Sister Wheeler. The last six weeks have
been hard but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I have come to know
and experience things I never would have before if I wasn't with
Sister Wheeler and if I had never been here.

With some stuff that happened this last week I have a challenge for
you. So I may or may not have told you that my motto for this transfer
is let it go. Well I invite y'all to do the same. Just let go of
everything holding you back, everything that is bottling up inside
you. Let it go. With that I also invite you to start letting go of me.
With this I mean as the time gets closer for me to come home let me be
the one to make the choices of what happens next. It's hard because I
have come to find out that it's hard to understand what I feel and say
when you haven't experienced it yourselves in the same way. Not even
Jess would understand some of it because she hasn't had to go through
the same things. I am grateful though that you have let me make my own
choices and that you get excited when I start a new chapter in my
life.

I have come to find out that there are somethings that I need to let
go of, my pride being one of them. But I know that I can't be the best
that I can until I let those things go. I don't know what all this
next transfer has in store for me, but I know that it will be what the
Lord needs me to do in order to become the person that He knows that I
can become and that I need to be.

Some stuff that happened this week: Well I found out that I am not
allergic to poison ivy. We did a service project at a member who
passed away's house (we are teaching her niece.) We helped do some
yard work...Sis Wheeler may or may not have sat in a garbage can I may
or may not have taken a few pictures. The elders did help and we had
frosty's. Oh and Sister Wheeler and I had chicken nugget kids meals.
Oh and a member heart attacked us. She's so sweet. She's possibly
moving to Logan. (Yeah!) and apparently her mom is buying a condo in
Saratoga Springs.

Well that is all for this week. I hope to hear from ALL of you soon!
Sister Brady

Adapting....not one of my strong points. July 1

So P-day this week is on Friday because we got to meet President
Hansen yesterday and so I am emailing today because yesterday we had
no time and the library will be closed on Friday.

Anyways this next week and a half is going to be a lot of adapting.
Like I said we got to meet President Hansen yesterday. It was hard
because I have spent the last 11 months with President Wall and I am
use to the way he does things, so with this change things were a
little difficult. It's so hard to rewire my brain to accept something
totally different then what I am use to. What makes it hard is that
Sister Wall told us to let go of any loyalties that we have with them.
I guess that has been the theme of this transfer...let it go. Let go
of the past, let go of all that is holding you back, just let it all
go. I guess that is the only way to let the mission go through you is
letting go.

In other news we helped the Thibodaux elders plan a wedding....can I
just say that I am happy that I don't have to worry about that anytime
soon...and that I will have Joseph there to help me with decorations
because it was super stressful....then again Sister Wheeler and I were
only together three days last week and so it was beyond crazy.  I am
grateful because one of the elders while we were decorating was doing
quirky things that just made me laugh which helped release a lot of
the stress.

Other than those things this week has been pretty chill. So next week
is transfer week BUT because we know that I am staying let the letters
flow....SERIOUSLY.

Love y'all tons and hope you have a good week.

Me with President and Sister Wall

Fight The Stress - June 23

So Sis Wheeler leaves in two and a half weeks, and I have been
stressing because I know that I will be running the area and I don't
feel ready. Last time I led the area I didn't find out I was until
three days before transfer calls. Well on exchanges this last week I
realized just how hard it is going to be. There were a couple times
that I just wanted to cry I was so stressed, and I DON"T CRY WHEN I AM
STRESSED! But it will be good because I will have at least one member
that I can rely on....until August when they move back to
Provo.....The husband is doing summer sales, he sales security
systems, they are awesome though! They are ones that I definitely
want to keep in contact with. But ya it is super hot here, and I am
trying to drink enough water and hopefully the humidity doesn't get to
me too hard. The bayou is a lot more humid then Covington or
Prairieville.

Anyways things are going good, we have investigator who has a date to
be baptized on July 19th.....but there is a lot going on that day so
we'll see what happens. We have two exchanges planned for this week,
the first one I am leading for 24hrs not 2 days. Oh and we have our
farewell to President Wall on Wednesday and meeting President Hansen
next week. It is going to be a crazy last two weeks between meetings
and me learning the last bit of this huge area. (To give you an idea
of how big it is we cover two parishes. So it would be like covering
Cache County and Box Elder County, because there isn't a lot out in
some of the area)
Well y'all I hope that you have an awesome week and that you are
learning something new each day!

Miracles Do Happen - June 16

So this week has been crazy! So much has happened and I have learned
so much. Here is just a piece of what I have learned. Two big miracles
that we have seen this week, involving family history and referrals.
So first family history. After district meeting last week we decided
to change our plans and go to the library. While we were there Sister
Wheeler came up with the idea to put mormon.org cards down by the main
entrance, but we decided against it because there wasn't any other
religious stuff there. We then walked up to the computer lab, and one
of the first things I saw when coming up the steps was the Genealogy
room. I then turned to Sis Wheeler and asked "what if we put the
family search cards in the Genealogy room?" She then went and asked
the librarian if we could do that, he told her yes and that they have
people go there all the time. He also told us that he had actually
been on the phone the other day with Salt Lake talking about it. Also
there was a lady that Sis Wheeler and seen at the library every time
she has come (both now and before) that she wanted to talk to, and
just as she got done talking to the librarian she walks by. Sis
Wheeler asks her what she is doing and she tells her indexing. Sis
Wheeler then asks her if she could teach us how she does it. She was
able to contact someone using family history!

The next miracle with referrals ties into what I learned this week in
my scripture reading and something that you talked about at the New
Orleans Stake Conference. Last week while we were with the New Orleans
South Zone Leaders preparing for ZTM we got a media referral. I just
shrugged it off and didn't have much faith in and and Sis Wheeler had
the same reaction. We didn't think much about it until this last week
when we actually had time to contact it. Boy was I chastised for that.
When we contacted her we found out that she referred herself. She had
been working with some sisters in Jacksonville Florida and had no idea
where to look for the church here. The sisters tried sending a
referral but that didn't work and so she just went on mormon.org and
referred herself. She told us that she had been there for the last two
weeks and those last two weeks had been pretty dark and rough. I felt
so bad because we had got the referral a week before, we could have
given her some light in that time. I came to the understanding that
media referrals and referrals in general are promptings!

With the thought of promptings as I read this week in Alma I noticed
two instances where if someone had postponed their action on a
prompting we wouldn't have all that we do in the Book of Mormon. It's
the story of Alma and Amulek meeting (Alma 10:6-11 and Alma 8:14-21)
If Alma decided that he was going to wait a week before he went back
Amulek wouldn't have been there, and if Amulek hadn't gone home when
he did he wouldn't have met Alma and been able to testify to what he
told the people of Ammonihah. We never know who is waiting for us when
we get a prompting and how ready they are to listen to us. I really
was hit hard with that at stake conference when you told the story of
why one elder came on a mission, and it also led me to think of a
quote from President Monson "Never never never postpone a prompting!"

Meetings meetings and more meetings - June 9

So this week was as crazy! We spent all day Wednesday in Baton Rouge
and New Orleans, Friday we were in Metairie and New Orleans, and then
Saturday we were in West Bank.....all for meetings. But I wouldn't
change it for the world. It was really hard in our meeting on
Wednesday because it was our last leadership meeting with President
Wall before he goes home. How he decided to end that meeting was
really cool. We did a scripture study and so each of us in that
meeting shared a scripture that meant a lot to us and why. It was
super powerful.  Well after the meeting was done some of us
missionaries had President Wall sign our copies of the Book of Mormon.
I know that is one thing that I am going to cherish for the rest of my
life. President and Sister Wall mean so much to me because they have
done so much for me. They have helped me in ways that y'all couldn't
because you aren't here to experience the things that I have gone
through with me. They are so awesome. You should hunt them down when
they get home, because they are truly that awesome.
So something that I want to share with you that I read about today
while reading President Monson's talk Love-the Essence of the Gospel.
One thing that it talks about is how we need to be careful  not shoot
down someones confidence by what we say and do. It's the thought we
need to bring each other up not shoot us down. I realized though the
times that we think that someone is being too sensitive, that is when
pride is growing within us. We start thinking that we are higher then
another and what others think doesn't. I have thought a lot about Matt
25:41, when we say harsh things or shoot someones confidence down, we
are shooting Christ down. Which in doing so takes us further away from
the Lord and being the type of person we need to be in entering God's
kingdom. In a talk yesterday a guy related being clean to walking into
the house with muddy feet. When we enter God's kingdom we won't be
able to walk through. It was really cool.
Well those are my thoughts and insights for this week.
Love y'all and hope you have an awesome week.

Hot and Humid in Houma - June 2

So I am now in Houma...aka Bayou Country. I love it the ward down here
is great. I got to go to my first PEC while being out on my mission.
One of the elders was kind of surprised to hear that I have been out
for 10 months and that was my first PEC and the stake president was
there.
Just a brief bio on my new companion, Sis Wheeler. She is from Idaho,
she is my age and she goes home at the end of the transfer, which
means that I will be staying because there will be only two sisters in
the entire mission that will know this area to some degree. So I
better pay attention to how things are done.
Anyways, I do love it here. The ward is very involved in missionary
work. It is funny though because of the four elders serving in the
ward here, I have served with three of them. All of which where while
I was in Covington and they were in Mandeville. I guess the Lord has
something that I need to learn from all three of them at the same
time. But I also see it as a blessing because then I can create a
tight bond of unity between all of us, I just have to get to know the
fourth elder a bit, which I don't see as a problem because of how much
we work with the elders here and try and communicate everything that
is going on with members and some of the investigators that we share.
Like with one set of the elders they are teaching this family and the
wife has asked us to teach her so that way she can get the female
perspective of the church and what it means. Which we are perfectly
fine with, we just have to go by what the elders have planned for
them.
Well that is all for this week. Not much is going on because I have
been here less then a week, well besides from Thursday to Saturday we
biked at least once everyday. I am just happy that I am not dead yet
because it is a lot hotter and more humid in the bayou then anywhere
else.

Well y'all have a good week.

I'm Moving Again - May 27

So yes I am getting transferred again. I found out this morning that
I will be a Sister Training Leader again! I missed being one but I
have had alot of fun not being one and serving with the missionaries
that I have. I have a guess as to where I am going mainly based upon
what I have managed to bribe out of the Assistants....Yes I bribed
them to tell us if either of us were getting transferred and then I
bribed them to see if I was going to the zone that I thought I
was....and if I am going where I think I am going I will be there for
awhile because my companion will be going home next transfer.
Anyways this last week has been crazy. I feel like we have been
running around like chickens with our head cut off because we have
been running around everywhere, and trying to finish the map books for
us and the elders....which we did because the zone leaders are getting
double transferred out of the area....poor poor 3rd ward they don't
take to strangers all that well.
